Getting visas for Japan

The Frasers in March 2007

Phew we haven't written anything here for ages as seems to happen with blogs. Brief summary:

Charis was born! See photos from around that time by clicking on Charis under tags...

David went on a preparatory trip to Japan which was a whirlwind tour involving very late visa applications and much answer to prayer!

Anni and Richard got married! No photos up yet... but it was a fantastic celebration and we got to see all David's immediate family which was great. Danielle's family visited immediately after so we've stocked up on family before we head off which is great.

And now we're finally getting ready to leave for Japan at the end of May. We all went to the Japanese consular in Cape Town today - James really enjoyed it which was nice. Charis was a bit oblivious other than being hungry. We're basically applying for temporary 3-month visas in the hope that once the company is registered in Japan we can convert our status while we're there. Danielle gets such a visa automatically being British; the rest of us need to apply. It turns out we need more stuff to submit our application, so we'll have to go back next week: here's the full list for reference...

  • Application form
  • Two photographs
  • Letter from company stating purpose of visit
  • Letter from friends saying we will reside with them and listing our names
  • Return air tickets
  • Letter from bank saying we have sufficient funds (and preferably specifying the amount)
  • An itinerary
